How to open an Avigilon .ave video

An .ave file is Avigilon's own export format. It opens only in Avigilon's player, so the practical answer is to ask for an MP4 or AVI export.

What an .ave file is

.ave is the native export format of Avigilon video systems. It opens only in Avigilon's own player, a Windows program. VLC, QuickTime and general video converters don't read it, and neither does the Video Converter.

What to do with one

  1. Check what came with it. Some .ave exports are delivered together with a copy of Avigilon's player; if yours was, that opens the file on a Windows computer.
  2. Ask for an MP4 or AVI export. Avigilon's player can export either. Ask for the date and time to be shown on the video: the AVI export has an option for that, and for an MP4 ask them to confirm it. Use this wording:

Produce <file name> as an MP4 or AVI export from the agency's video system, with the original date and time shown on the video.

For LexProxy members

The easy option: the Video Converter

The Video Converter doesn't take .ave files; general converters don't either. Once you have the MP4 or AVI you're set. For the other formats that turn up in discovery, LexProxy members who are verified Georgia attorneys get the Video Converter free. Upload the file, download the MP4. It takes .qbx (Flashback dashcam), .asf, .avi, .ts, .3gp, .mkv, .wmv, and HEVC .mov and .mp4.

Both files are deleted an hour after you download. LexProxy never stores the video. The converter runs on LexPhone and opens from your LexProxy dashboard.
